Title: Tangled Depths/Gerent
Post by: Tweetiti on November 13, 2015, 09:09:15 AM
Some of you discovered this Meta Event and how frustrating it can be as it fails very easily as soon as one lane fails.

The basics:

There's 4 lanes

You need to be able to get the Gerent out in the surface to be able to DPS him fast.
You have 3 chances to do this by progressing from the back of the line to the Ley Line wp.

A group of 20 is ideal per lane

3 of them are easy enough for example the Ogre lane you just need to destroy eggs or the the rata novus lane where you find a broken down golem and ley line collectors which need to be smashed to obtain drops that repair the golem.
The SCAR lane works on a resonance device that forces the Gerent to surface. A gauge will slowly fill up while they work on it. They need to be protected so that the gauge will keep filling. Once the Gerent burrows again, the entire team moves down the lane and sets up a new device in a new location.

The hardest one is the Nuhoc lane where you need to stomp spores on mushrooms. As on the other lane it is key to spread out to hit as many spores as possible.

-Note also that  a large pack of Chak spawn that make a beeline for the cannon. A dedicated team should take thelm down fast as soon as they see the message pop up that they have spawn. They will not fight, just run to the cannon. If the cannon takes too much damage, the event ends in failure.

-After the Gerent surfaces, you have a limited time to DPS him as fast as you can but he has powerful AOEs that pushes you for example and he easily wipes a party. Some say you should break his bar with cc so that he is stunned to be able to DPS him more but others says not to due to the AoE he then starts.

In Doubt the NPC you escort will tell you everything you need to know.

There's a bit more to it but the event is on a 2 hour rotation and starts at XX.25 here's a schedule you can use for HoT events: http://psdh.eu/index.php?page=psdh_calendar (at the bottom)

Edit: There is an excellent guide here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1mKFN2plbH6X-TDub2MFD1xiygf28bP3DTU9gYpdHSVk/edit?pli=1

The thing to note is:
Quote
After the Wurms kill in EU, a No CC Strat has started to enter the public consciousness. The basics of this strat involve not CCing the chak gerent when he does his avalanche attack; this minimizes his movement, as well as the associated knockbacks and evade frames, making it much easier for melee to DPS the boss. This strat can be quite strong in the Nuhoch lane, as this will allow allied chak lobbers to stack their goo pools at his feet and maximize debuff uptime - provided they don’t die to the avalanche AoEs themselves.

When doing the No CC Strat, it’s highly recommended melee stay clustered as close to his face as possible. Spreading around the gerent will cause him to turn towards whoever has his aggro, prompting chain stuns, knockbacks, and heavy damage on whatever side has his tail. Make small sidesteps to avoid the avalanche AoE, and rezz anyone that goes down in the melee blob immediately.

No idea if the strategy is still the one to use, but this might be helpful

I had a go on this the other night, got the ogre lane to like 0.01% health left. Interesting how the use of CC can be detrimental in this event.

Would be good to figure out a general event guide too - as often you'll want to spawn a new map and complete the pre-events quickly (for ogres its mainly just escorting a key ogre places) before the main meta itself. Tangled depths is also quite the labyrinth.

It's really hard to spawn a new map, jumping together won't spawn one due to map settings mistakes. ... 40 minutes and counting now to get one... 60 minutes they gave up and went back to starting map even if not optimal. Yes the map finding event is hard! :D

For tomorrow's attempt there's a funny and through guide you can chekc out here: forum-en.guildwars2.com/forum/game/hot/Guide-to-King-of-the-Jungle/first#post5842783 (http://forum-en.guildwars2.com/forum/game/hot/Guide-to-King-of-the-Jungle/first#post5842783)

Things to remember not mentionned above from the other posts:

- The Chak Crown. This is a boss who will spawn south of Ley-Line Confluence just before the start of the event. He will contest the waypoint, making organization difficult. You need to avoid the blue glup and kill all his minions before you can kill the champion.
- You need Bouncing Mushroom (for nuhoch lane) and Gliding Masteries Full Exotic Tiered Gear aimed towards DPS. ALso prepare damage oriented food and utility consumable (Fire ele first)
- Purple Death Donuts. The Gerent will, without tell, drop a big glowing purple ring on the ground. This ring does massive damage, ticking for 7k per second. This ring will also slowly expand, getting to become quite huge. This purple donut will persist for what seems like forever, and it is responsible for a large number of deaths. Gerent can drop multiples of these, but usually it is one per bar breaking.
- The Headlong rush. In this attack, the chak will chitter, rear back, and then make a mad dash at a hereto unknown player. This dash is very far reaching, and it can hit multiple times in stride. This attack knocks back, and is very capable of downing you whomever you are. There are two things to note about this attack: To avoid it, dodge sideways or through it. Or block it. Secondly, never stand up-lane of the chak gerent when he does not have a break bar. That is, never stand in a position such that, if Gerent were to charge you, he would head away from Ley-Line Confluence. This is important, as increased run time between events will make them much more difficult.

He does also mention that you shouldn't cc the Gerent again there's 2 schools about it I'm told it's worse with the Nuhoch lane but I've never seen an attempt without cc and it still can succeed.
FOr the scar lane I'm also told not to raise the NPC once the Gerent is surfaced as this will break the bar (evergy lvl 0).

3 schools actually:
cc, no cc, controlled cc
in europe seems no cc is the most present strategy and no care of boss positioning.
TTS does controlled cc, which means use cc for reposition then no cc.

Good thing about the meta, the hard scaling is gone.
