larger PSDH
« on: August 05, 2014, 09:55:50 pm »
Hey all,

Monday we got together for Tequatl and notished that there where a really low on players to organize it our selves, so we joined a other group. After that fight we where whit a couple of people on TS still and discussed what we could do to get a bigger PSDH.. And we did some sugestions to do and to work out here more whit more people and idears! I would love to recruut more for PSDH, if people know what we do and how they could join us then the group will be getting bigger soon. I want to do my part in that so i would like to think of a tekst we could say so that we have one message, and we can spread the word!
I hope people want to join me in this task, and have more idears maybe for recruting or so..

Greetings Missterious

Yeah, we really need to put all of our heads together and come up with ideas to help PSDH, we can't let Dark do all the thinking.

One idea that I had in mind is to make a good use of the guild's facebook page. We can do that by updating the description of the page to reflect better what the guild does, also include a link to the webpage in the description. We can also use it to communicate in brief about new events for example "PSDH is organising a huge Wurm run. Click on the link provided for more details <insert link of forum post>". We can also post a reminder on facebook an hour before every event starts.
Obviously for all this to work we need to spread the word about the facebook page.

PS: I know some of you do not like Facebook, but in my opinion it's the best tool out there to spread the word.

Facebook posting can be done automatically with this forum's software (eg. http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=360150.0) we could liven our FB profile this way.

Also, I think it's a good idea to have a common recruiting message and for example have people assigned to areas where they would spread it (btw. I can see a lot of guild advertising in current top farming place - Malachor's leap).

What bums me most at the moment is not the fact that we do not have enough people (on ts), but that it seems like we’re losing faith and drive to kill the wurm. And it’s a kind of vicious circle – we see that there are few of us on ts so we don’t join, and that makes us fewer. At least it’s how I understand it.

We can’t count on people joining us for the rewards – there won’t be many of those at least now, when we’re all still somewhat in training (we’re yet to see phase 2 of the fight together), so what could work, in my opinion, is committing because somebody we like and care for has asked us to. What I mean is – rallying guildmates. I was wondering if it wouldn’t be a good idea to get the leaders/generals of guilds that form PSDH involved more in advertising the project (Dark and Stormwolf can’t do it alone). I’m hesitant to suggest this because it feels like laying the responsibility on somebody else, and it’s against bottom-up initiative, but I suspect that if some DKAL guild member with authority told DKAL “boys and girls, we’re killing wurm this evening” it would have an immensely greater impact than if it was suggested by a newbie. (By the way, I’m sure that DKAL alone has enough people to take down at least one of the heads  ;) )

I’m also not sure if holiday period is not a part of the small ts numbers issue (I talk about committing and showing up, yet I know I will probably be of Internet for last two weeks of August :( ).

Hugs, Ola

I was thinking the same, we need to get the guild leaders of the alliance more involved in the events, DKAL alone has enough people to take down all 3 wurms if everyone joins. I suggest a guild leaders meeting where this can be discussed.

I also like the common recruiting message idea, we need to come up with a good message that catches the eye and explains what PSDH is all about. We do not want to give false information.

Also something else I would like to suggest is searching for other guilds to join forces with (as an alliance).

Having guild leaders/officers join and collaborate with PSDH is basically how PSDH began. The original idea was so when an event was about to be organized a whisper would be send out to the people in PSDH and they would relay this information to the guildies in their main guild(s). Either by whisper or guild chat. Since the megaserver release this mechanic has faded away since lots of people who want to do events with us are in PSDH.

It's up to the people in guilds to motivate their fellow guildies to come hang out with us for Tequatl and Wurm. Reason? Dunno, maybe because we're awesome? What I personally do when we have new players join Enigma. I have a talk with them telling them what [Eni] is about and then continue to tell that we're allied with PSDH for big work events like Teq and Wurm. Most of the time when they hear about that they're fairly excited and plan to join PSDH for one of its events.

I think we should go back to our roots and try to get in contact with small guilds who want to do big events with the guild but don't have enough people. Recruiting single players is nice, but I have the feeling that most of them join for one or two events and then be in-active.  This might not be the case for people who contact us after events.

About the wurm. I think most people in PSDH are with us because of Tequatl and they don't feel like doing the wurm. Probably due to various reasons (mainly because they have to work for loot). For the wurm we need A LOT more active people (unlike Teq where you can do it with full PUG) who're motivated, be pro-active and most important join teamspeak.

Biggest problem - I think - is awareness. When we do Tequatl lots of people know who we are and how we roll. This isn't the case with the Wurm. We need to think of something to easily create awareness and motivate people to join us do to the wurm.

---

This isn't really about a larger PSDH. It's about having PSDH with motivated people. We have 220+ people in the guild of which only a handful are active. Currently we're busy preparing another big guild cleanup which will happen the first week of September. If you don't want to be purged, make sure to represent PSDH during events.

So you're saying that we need to start looking for small guilds who wants to join our alliance for the mega events. I agree with that. What we need is to discuss ways of recruiting them so we  won't recruit the wrong guilds.

Yes, an other point would be to really make clear to those guilds that we're not trying to take their individual guild identity away. Joining PSDH has always been (will stay) optional. If you like what we do and want to get more involved, join us otherwise  just make sure you're on teamspeak for information, taxies, ect..

What is your suggestion on how we do that?

Official Forums?
Redit?
Ingame?
All of the above?

We already tried Reddit - we drafted what I thought was quite a nice advert for the guild... and posted it there - as far as I know it didn't generate a single new member.  Not sure that the official forums would be any different but we can try - I have a feeling it will just get lost in the white noise though.

In game advertising (e.g. around LA) works up to a point but the best thing we can do is do events and advertise before / after.  Even if we fail, so long as we do them well (by which I mean coordinate our efforts on Teamspeak, act in a 'professional' manner etc). then there will usually be people who recognise that as a good thing and want to join us.   Even after last night's total fail at the Amber Wurm I got a couple of queries because they saw that we knew what we're about and it wasn't down to us that the event was a total noobfest.

One of the issues with recruiting small guilds is that to a large extent they want to be small guilds and they're happy just doing the small stuff.  In my 'small guild' I'm really the only one with a 'larger appetite' (although I can press gang one or two of the others occasionally).  World events aren't everyone's cup of tea, and that's fine , but I'm sure there are other people in a similar situation to me though who want to do the bigger stuff and PSDH can be a vehicle for them to achieve it as much as for 'whole' small guilds - basically don't discount recruiting individuals.

We need a standard brief in-game recruitment text, with a link to a post on these forums explaining more of what PSDH is about (i.e. that we're an alliance of small guilds and that we don't want to diminish the identity of those guilds whilst maintaining that we're all 'representing' PSDH for the purpose of tackling the 'big stuff' that the game has  to offer.

This doesn't have to be just the Wurm and Teq.  The farm events in Dry Top would have been an excellent opportunity to attract more members (instead we have ended up doing it with TxS or whoever else has been organised enough to manage Tier 5 runs).

Anyway I'm waffling again so that'll do for now.

Maybe something similar.

PSDH, a group of allied guilds specialised in Organised Tequatl/Tri-Wurm runs with occasional T5 Dry Top runs, is looking for small guilds to join our alliance. Check our website (psdh.eu) for more information,  and do not be shy to contact one of 'The Team' for any clarification.

Before we start inviting people or other guilds to join us, we need a clear goal that PSDH is aiming for.
PSDH was originally created to beat Teq and Wurm, regularly by Pikens for Piken Square. This goal set us apart from other guilds and communities. Sadly, megaservers have somewhat screwed that up, therefore what's the goal that we use to advertise PSDH now? I don't think 'to beat Teq and Wurm as an alliance of smaller guilds' is a good enough reason to convince people or other guilds to join us, and more importantly stay with us.

During events, we sometimes bump into commanders that we successfully cooperate with. Maybe we could, after such a thing happens (by “we” I mean someone from “The Team” who’s present), try to whisper them and invite them/their guilds to join PSDH? I think personal, direct contact can work quite well. I agree that the best PSDH advertisement is when we do stuff well.

(Stormwolf, Wednesday’s Amber was not a “total fail”  :) Diboofers did their job, condis did theirs. For couple of us it was quite a good training. True, there were people running around like headless chickens, not knowing what to do with a harpoon, but it’s the hardest head and we chewed at it. BTW, did we use mapchat to explain what people are supposed to be doing on Amber? The one problem with ts is that, there will always be someone not there and participating in the event. During Triple Trouble it’s enough for a handful of people, who don’t know what they’re doing, to mess things up for all of us.)

The aim of PSDH is to provide a service to all allied guilds (and randoms who happen to be in the area and willing to listen). That service is an organised run for Wurm and Tequatl, but also for future mega events which I'm sure there will be more. Now if people want to add more to our list of service, they are more than welcome to suggest :)
